Hello and welcome to my first art compilation blog post! I've been looking forward to doing this but I have no idea how to start, so if this sounds a little awkward it's because it IS. :V So let's start talking about the stuff I made this month! I'm gonna turn the "lightbox" option on for these, so if you click an image you should be able to see them up closer!
Next is actually 2019's first commission! A Sailor Scout version of AmethystRaindrops. This was a blast to do because I love the Sailor Scout outfits and overall visuals, AND Amethyst's character is known for her very special galaxy hair, which I adore painting.
One thing that might be considered some "extra content" for this digest is a commission I completed last month; But it was such a big an important one I'd still like to show it off here. It's the painting of Quincy the cat! I consider this commission important because I made it right after deciding to change a few things in my painting style - I had been watching a lot of Aaron Blaise's streams (go watch him, please) so I was extremely inspired to create beautiful animal paintings. Sadly, Mr Blaise's techniques are way too far away from my own, and that realization, albeit obvious, brought along some frustration with the process. I was a little sad when I finished this commission and felt like it wasn't pretty enough, yet there was nothing else I could possibly do about it at the moment. I took a small break from art when the new years came and, when I looked at the piece again, I didn't feel like it was that bad anymore (which was a good thing). It's definitely somewhat of an improvement for me and, even if it's not Aaron Blaise level, it's important to acknowledge my progress and learning as well. I pushed myself as hard as I could for this one and that has definitely made me wander off my comfort zone, therefore bringing some new experience. So that's my tip for you today; Sometimes, the most important commissions are not the ones we love doing the most: it's the ones that give you one hell of a hard time, challenging you, making you leave a better artist than when you started. ALSO! Do you know what I almost completely forgot to add here, because they're not in my lil' list of "things to post"?? Fanart! I did take a moment to create fanart this month! Which was amazing and I loved it! This year I'll definitely try and pace my work in a way that I have the time to create at least one good piece of fanfiction per month. January was lucky enough to have two! (I love Steven Universe)
So, you know what? I don't think I had realized the amount of art I created this month until I put it all together and talked about each one of them. It was a particularly high energy month, so I really don't intend to keep this pace very often. But it is nice to feel this productive!
One important reminder is that Patrons also have access to all of the files for the pieces I've posted here! Peek into the mess that is the realm of my layers and folders! See into my secrets! And like, use my commissions for a desktop wallpaper or something. The possibilities are endless! WELL! I hope you guys liked Monthly Art Volume I. Name is still a work in progress. Let me know what you think about it so far, feel free to leave any suggestions and I hope to see you next month!
